The New Canadians Health Centre (NCHC) is the first community-driven health Centre dedicated to refugee health in Edmonton, Alberta .
The NCHC is guided by five principles that are grounded in social justice, equity, and social inclusion:
(1) Community-owned,
(2) Welcoming and inclusive,
(3) Adopt a social model of health,
(4) Act collaboratively, and
(5) Create a supportive learning environment.
Through a focus on community building and addressing the social determinants of health, the NCHC strives to provide holistic healthcare services. By fostering strong community bonds and attending to the broader factors that influence health outcomes, the NCHC represents an innovative approach to refugee health. The goal of the NCHC is to ensure that refugees in Edmonton receive the highest quality care and support on their settlement journeys in Canada.
