Against All Odds : In 2001, tragedy struck. The Canso found itself submerged in the icy depths of Sitidgi Lake, NWT. Many believed it was the end—a silent farewell to a hero. But fate had other plans in the form of six determined farmers from Fairview, AB, who defied the odds. They embarked on a daring mission: to resurrect the Canso from the shores of the frozen lake. Their sweat, grit, and passion breathed life back into the wings that once patrolled stormy seas and battled the flames of forest fires.
"First Flight" : A decade later, the Canso defied gravity once more. Its triumphant "First Flight" in 2017, after restoration, marked a new chapter. Now, it soars not only through the skies but also into the hearts of Albertans—young and old.
Our Vision:
Aviation Events : With your support, we'll continue showcasing the Canso at airshows, where its majestic silhouette evokes memories of great courage and sacrifice. The roar of its engines will echo through time, reminding us of those who served.
School Field Trips : We're passionate about education. The Canso will visit small communities, welcoming school field trips. Imagine the awe in young eyes as they learn about aviation, and connect with the past.
Preserving Heritage : Funds raised will go towards the construction of light-weight visitor boarding ramps and much needed navigational equipment for the aircraft. Both are required so FARS can safely share the story across Alberta and Canada. Funds will also go to improving the immersive educational and historical tour experience. Through the addition of Cansos’ RCAF history, and highlighting Albertan and Canadian WWII Veterans who flew and worked on the Cansos. The Canso isn't just an aircraft; it's a bridge between generations—a tangible link to our shared Canadian heritage.
