Why the Canso Matters: The Canso, with its iconic twin-engine design and amphibious hull, played a pivotal role during World War II. As a maritime patrol bomber, it scoured the North Atlantic Ocean, safeguarding convoys, hunting submarines, and ensuring the safety of our allies. But its story doesn’t end there. Let's explore why this historic aircraft deserves our continuing support:

Guardian of the North : Post-war, the Canso transitioned into a new mission. It helped construct the Distance Early Warning (DEW) System —a network of radar stations across Canada's northern wilderness. These stations stood vigilant during the Cold War of the 1950s against the potential threat of Soviet bombers coming over the polar route, endangering the security of North America.

Firefighter Extraordinaire : The Canso's wings weren't just for battle; they also carried hope. As a wildfire water bomber, it fought infernos across our vast land. From Newfoundland’s rugged forests to the remote reaches of the Northwest Territories, the Canso battled flames, saving lives and trees.

Our Vision:

Aviation Events: With your support, we'll continue showcasing the Canso at airshows, aviation museums, and Remembrance Day ceremonies, where its majestic silhouette evokes memories of great courage and sacrifice. The roar of its engines will echo through time, reminding us of those who served.

School Field Trips : We're passionate about education. The Canso will visit small communities in Alberta, welcoming school field trips. Imagine the awe in young eyes as they learn about aviation, and connect with the past.

Preserving Heritage : Funds raised will go towards the construction of light-weight visitor boarding ramps and much needed navigational equipment for the aircraft. Both are required so FARS can safely share the story across Alberta and Canada. Funds will also go to improving the immersive educational and historical tour experience. Through the addition of Cansos’ RCAF history, and highlighting Albertan and Canadian WWII Veterans who flew and worked on the Cansos. The Canso isn't just an aircraft; it's a bridge between generations—a tangible link to our shared Canadian heritage.
