This isn’t a typical “about us” page. No. It is our mission. It is our philosophy. And it is our guiding principles. They keep us grounded. They keep us focused. They keep us accountable. They keep us growing and moving forward.
When we live and breathe these defining ideals we make an impact. We can, together, change the conversation, change lives, and make a difference in the health and welfare of the pets we love.
OUR MISSION
We provide care to pets in need by:
-
Providing temporary homes until they can be reunited with their family through our Guardian Angel Program (GAP)
-
Finding permanent homes for those who are surrendered or transferred into our care
CARE PHILOSOPHY
The CAWS subscribes to the philosophy of “Do No Harm" and the Five Freedoms:
-
Freedom from Hunger and Thirst by constant access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
-
Freedom from Discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
-
Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
-
Freedom to Express Normal Behavior by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and companionship.
-
Freedom from Fear and Distress by ensuring conditions and treatment that avoid mental suffering.
“Do No Harm” includes, but is not limited to, refusal to cosmetically alter an animal when the surgery is not medically necessary for the animal's health. Such surgeries include, but are not limited to, declawing, debarking, ear and tail cropping.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
-
We believe that when people are in life transition, having the confidence that their pets are well taken care of gives them hope.
-
We believe that having pets helps people and enriches their lives.
-
We value compassion and empathy for people and their pets.
-
We believe in creating a sense of community for people who love and want to help animals.

-
We believe in leading the collaborative effort towards the next generation of animal welfare.
-
We value acceptance, exclusivity and respect - and we believe that everyone has a voice.
-
We value transparency and will operate professionally and ethically.

Organization campaigns

How do you say no to an urgent call about 10 orphaned 4 week old pups needing our help? Simultaneously another call comes in - can we help an injured dog with a broken leg? We don’t say no! We just have faith that somehow with help we will save them all.
