Mission: The mission of the Society of High Prairie Regional Environmental Action Committee involves both public education about and activities supporting responsible waste management, sustainable energy production, sustainable resource development, airshed and watershed protection in our region.
Vision: The Society of High Prairie Regional Environmental Action Committee supports the protection and enhancement of the natural environment.
With our Plastics Remanufacture Project, we are fundraising to provide small scale plastics remanufacture equipment to rural, remote, and Indigenous communities who want to make something with their communities' 'waste' plastic.
As Alberta moves towards extended producer responsibility, where producers and manufacturers pay for recycling instead of municipalities, we know that shipping plastic more than 250 km for recycling is not going to be cost effective or greenhouse gas neutral.
Rural, remote, and Indigenous communities want to recycle too! Plastics are made with our precious non-renewable oil and gas resources.
Here's how this program can work! This new business will buy clean plastic 'waste' from community members and make new things for everyone to enjoy or sell.
