Our Mission

Provide elements of nurturing care for children using Learning-Through-Play

OSL noble cause slogan is: Making Early Childhood Learning Affordable

Our Vision

Create opportunities that elevate rural children's talents and abilities one town at a time

Outcomes

  • Children quickly become aware and begin to understand the world around them
  • Impoverished children become lifelong learners of tomorrow through early learning
  • Increased enrollment from 11 children October 2021 to 80 children now has created 14 jobs
  • Parents, especially women, are relieved and can seek employment and careers
  • Opportunity for Canada post secondary students to engage for international experience
  • Win-win for various stakeholders interested in supporting a great cause for their aligned values

What is OSL all About?

The charity is designed to contribute and support the efforts of Canadians and Diaspora in the local Alberta and Canadian communities and elsewhere who want their donations and volunteerism to reach impoverished children globally while benefiting from the tax options available in Canada. In short Albertans, Canadians and other donors can trust that their generosity will shine and go towards a cause they believe in. The charity’s aim, purpose, mission, vision, goals, outcomes, strategies, and people all matter to many Canadians and alike Diaspora. Learn more at… www.onesteplearning.org

One Step Learning Opportunities Centre (OSL) is grassroots, Edmonton-based, federally, and provincially registered charity that is “Making Early Childhood Learning Affordable” for impoverished children in rural Ghana. OSL is leveraging its play-based daycare, a building and space donated by OSL Alberta philanthropists. Any Canadian generosity received creates and impacts positive life changing experiences for 1 – 4 years old children to become lifelong learners. For the Albertan, Canadian and other donors, your knowledge, capacity, cash, volunteerism, or matching funds contribution impacts positive change, and boosts stewardship relations locally and globally through your strategic gift giving.

Impact

Literacy has improved. A Canadian couple generously donated a large house with lots of activity spaces in rural town Entumbil, Ghana for early childhood learning purposes. On October 18, 2021, a play-based charitable daycare opened in Entumbil, Ghana for rural children that had no facilities. The Centre provides elements of nurturing care for children using Learning through Play activities. In October 2021 the daycare started with 11 children, and now OSL serves 80 children daily. The positive impact for children and community has exceeded our expectations of 32. [Next page has Projects you can support].

Our Goals

  1. Increased exposure of rural children to Early Childhood Learning (ECL) and the English language will provide a foundation for formal education and lifelong learners of tomorrow
  2. Access to a secure childcare facility for parents, especially women, will inspire stakeholders
  • Provide donors another avenue for their meaningful strategic gift giving and legacy
  1. Provide practical site for post-secondary students and public volunteers to transfer knowledge in early childhood learning virtually or in-person to rural Ghana.

Affordability

Entumbil is an impoverished farming community in Ghana. Majority of the population are girls and women who are mostly illiterate and unemployed. There was no childcare facility until OSL stepped in. To enable affordability OSL charges a one-time registration fee of GHC 20 (twenty Ghana cedis, equivalent to Cdn$4 and USD$3), and a daily attendance fee of GHC 4 now (65 cents Canadian and 50 cents USD$). This daily attendance fees collected only covers 25% of the annual operating cost budget.
