The Linden Lodge is operated by the Linden Benevolent Society for Seniors ("LBS"), which is governed by a Board of Directors. The entire operation is non-profit and the Board continually strives to keep fees low to fulfull their mission, "to supply affordable room and board for senior citizens who are funtionalluy independent." In the current economic climate, this has proven challenging. Thirty years ago, the LBS broke ground to build the first phase of the Linden Lodge. It had 12 two-room suites and a dining room and kitchen. Phase 2 followed in 1996 and Phase 3, comprised of studio suites, in 2003. Some time later, in 2015, a fourth phase was completed, which had 12 condo-style suites with attached garages. The Linden Lodge now consists of 48 suites, 2 guest suites, a dining room, two common rooms and a commercial kitchen.
The newest part of the Lodge, Phase 4, is on a higher grade, which means we have a set of stairs and an elevator to get to that Phase. A significant number of the residents living on Phase 4 are unable to use the stairs, so the elevator get lots of use! However, when it goes down, it can take a few days to get it back up and running, and that creates a problem for the residents, who need to get down to the dining room for their meals.
An excellent solution to this would be to install a stairlift on the existing stairwell, which is very wide. If the elevator becomes inoperable, it would be a great alternative, and when it is in operation, it's an additional way residents can get down the stairs, as there is often a lineup for the elevator!
