The Hub 2.0: An inclusive and beloved creative space
The Hub 2.0 is an outreach program aimed at serving our vibrant community of people with developmental, cognitive, and physical disabilities! This program continually serves to bring back the supportive and beloved space created by The Hub on Ross. The pandemic and funding cuts put an end to the community and arts programming that The Hub on Ross offered for years, but the Hub 2.0, now housed at the YMCA Northside Community Centre, can continue these inclusive efforts!
The City of Red Deer, the YMCA Northside Community Centre and several granting agencies across the city and region helped us re-create the magic in a new space. We at the Red Deer Arts Council believe that these folks matter and deserve a space full of creativity, self-expression, belonging, and social integration.
The Hub 2.0 facilitates activities that are free to the public, such as:
- Mixed Media Art: an opportunity for participants to create a new project each week while learning techniques, styles, and creating something from the heart.
- Strum & Drum with Dean Ray: an active participation concert with recreational drumming!
- Creative Open Stage and Karaoke: An opportunity for individuals to present their talents on an open stage.
You can help keep this inclusive space thriving!
Funds put towards this campaign will fund facility rentals, art supplies and professional fees for artist leaders.
Help Support Creative Red Deer!
We are the Red Deer Arts Council; a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting local creativity and culture throughout Red Deer and Central Alberta. For nearly 50 years, we have been running events and promoting literary, performing and visual arts. With our new expanded office downtown, we are now able to host Arts Council related events such as poetry readings, art exhibits, concerts, and much, much more.
Imagine a day without arts and culture.
No music in your headphones, no concerts to attend, no decorations in your office or any stylish graphic t-shirts. No architecture, video games, storytelling, books, logos, no music ... The list of creative outlets we'd lose each day goes on. It would be devastating to our humanity.
The arts are integral to our daily lives and communities. They are the backbone of our identities and our individual cultures. Art creates inclusivity; it creates a voice for all people. These voices need to be heard.
Help keep arts and culture alive in Red Deer!
In order to keep art alive, the community has to step in. Without a space to encourage the development of art, we risk the loss of culture and of opportunities to create impactful art to breathe life into our communities. Over the course of our nearly 50 years of operations, we have continuously worked with the City of Red Deer and numerous other associations to display the work of local artists and fund artists' dreams through scholarships and awards.
