Only one in ten individuals with an eating disorder receive proper treatment. This statistic must change: Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses and professional help is necessary in order to achieve full recovery. An eating disorder is not a choice, but a complex mental illness that requires effort, time and guidance to overcome.
Those living with eating disorders often feel isolated and misunderstood. Without proper support, recovery may seem impossible to these individuals. Sadly, the current demand for eating disorder treatment in Alberta far exceeds available resources. That's why, at Silver Linings, we work to provide accessible support groups and resources to those with eating disorders and their loved ones. We've seen, first hand, just how devastating eating disorders can be... However, we also know, for a fact, that recovery is possible. Our support groups make recovery a reality through providing support, hope, and a sense of community to those living with eating disorders.
