The Hub 3.0: A place for you to shine!
The Hub is an outreach program serving our vibrant community of people with developmental, cognitive, and physical disabilities through the arts! This program brings back the supportive and beloved space created by The Hub on Ross up at the YMCA Northside Community Centre since Autumn 2021. In September 2024, we were able to expand the program from one to two days of activities each week! Join us Wednesdays and Fridays for a variety of inclusive and accessible activities among friends.
The Government of Alberta, The City of Red Deer, the YMCA Northside Community Centre and several granting agencies across the city and region helped us re-create the magic in a new space. We know these folks matter and deserve a space full of creativity, learning opportunities, self-expression, belonging, and social integration.
The Hub offers activities that are free to the public and welcome all ages and abilities:
- Mixed Media Art: an opportunity for participants to create a new project each week while learning techniques, styles, and creating something from the heart. Wednesdays & Fridays from 10:30am - 12:00pm
- Strum & Drum: an active participation concert with recreational drumming! Wednesdays from 1:00 - 2:00pm
- Making Plays: collaborate to write, perform and produce scenes, plays and performances, using improv techniques, costumes, props, and more! Wednesdays from 2:30 - 4:00pm
- Grooving Together: Get moving with friends! Featuring a variety of movement activities, including dance, Zumba, Tai Chi, and yoga, learn some new techniques to build energy and stretch and have fun! Fridays from 1:00 - 2:00pm.
- Creative Open Stage and Karaoke: An opportunity for individuals to present their talents on an open stage. Fridays from 2:30 - 4:00pm
You can help keep this inclusive space thriving!
Funds put towards this campaign will fund facility rentals, art supplies and professional fees for artist leaders. They will also be used to match our Government of Alberta Grant that has made our recent programming expansion possible.
Fuel Support for Creative Red Deer!
We are the Red Deer Arts Council, a passionate not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to enriching local creativity, arts, and culture throughout Red Deer and Central Alberta. For over 50 years, we have promoted, inspired, and showcased literary, performing, and visual arts in our community. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2024-2025, we are thrilled to host even more events, including poetry readings, art exhibits, concerts, and so much more!
