Creation of an Interfaith burial section
The Interfaith cemetery project is more than just land...
it is about compassion, inclusion, and legacy.
Launching a public campaign ensures that all members of our diverse Jewish community has an opportunity to participate in this special campaign.
Since 1907, Edmonton Chevra Kadisha (ECK) continues to provide a dignified and respectful final tribute, ensuring every soul is treated with the utmost reverence and respect. Dedicated volunteers carry out the ritual care of the deceased along with organizing the memorial service and burial process.
In February 2025, ECK membership overwhelmingly passed a motion to create an Interfaith section at the north cemetery,
allowing families with one non-Jewish spouse/partner to be laid to rest together.
ECK is proud of its history of evolving over a century to continue to meet our diverse community needs. With the inclusion of an Interfaith section, ECK will continue the sacred rites of a Jewish burial, along with a respectful burial for a non-Jewish spouse/partner.
Through the generosity of many donors, a total of $158,600 has been raised in pledges and cash donations.

*Summer 2025 - $7063 raised on this site. If another $3000 is raised by March 31, 2026 on this site,
the Government of Alberta will provide a $5000 matching grant.
