The Paralympic Sports Association (PSA) is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals with disabilities through adaptive recreational and sporting activities.
Everyone should be able to access sport and recreation , and be able to do so alongside their family and friends. Unfortunately, for people with disabilities, these opportunities are limited.
In many instances program costs are prohibitively expensive, and modified pieces of equipment are costly. For example, a new adapted kayaking paddle costs just over $500! A large number of our participants receive AISH or face financial challenges due to medical related expenses and simply can't afford the cost of pursuing these activities on their own. PSA provides all adapted equipment for our programs, aiming to meet our participants needs and limiting barriers to participation.
This summer, PSA plans on running para golf, para cycling (beginner and intermediate level) and adapted kayaking programs. We're also looking forward to hosting three weeks of teen/young adult summer day camps with a focus on sport, recreation and wellness. Our summer wraps up with a 3 day para hockey (sledge hockey) camp, bringing together athletes from across Alberta. PSA provides trained volunteers to support and individual's participation as much or as little is required.
We can't do this without your help
While we aim to keep our costs low to participants, many program related expenses have gone up significantly over the past year.
Your support will help to keep program registration fees low and will ensure we can offer our full slate of summer programs. After all, summer in Edmonton is so short, everyone should be able to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors!
