Rosebud Legacy Society

AMMOLITE OPERA: Bold, Modern and Canadian

Watch

 Who We Are:
Ammolite Opera is a new chamber opera company based in Calgary, Alberta, dedicated to presenting innovative and thought-provoking productions.

Founded with a mission to champion modern operatic works through the voices of world class Canadian Artists, Ammolite Opera brings a fresh perspective to the operatic stage.

Why We Need Your Support:

To continue bringing groundbreaking opera to Alberta, support our crowdfund! Your contribution will directly support Canadian artist fees, venue costs, and production expenses, ensuring that living operatic work reaches the stage.

The Alberta Government crowdfund has a matching grant of 50% up to $5,000.00. To maximize this offer, our goal is to raise $10,000.00.

Donations over $20 dollars will automatically receive a tax receipt!

Your donation will help Ammolite Opera:

  • Provide high-quality performance opportunities for Canadian artists. This includes, designers, directors, conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists, stage management, librettists, and composers.
  • Expand access to opera for Albertan audiences through the summer months.
  • Continue developing opera that reflects modern perspectives.

Our 2023/2024 Impact:
At Ammolite Opera, we believe in the power of opera to connect, inspire, and transform. Our mission is to produce opera by living composers through the voices of Canadian artists. In just over a year of our founding in October 2023, we have proudly:

* Presented two Canadian premieres of operas by living composers—Proving Up by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek and Empty the House by Rene Orth and Mark Campbell.

* Launched the Red Chair Music Series, a free concert 3 part series in partnership with the Calgary Public Library. This event had the largest turn out of any program at the Calgary Public Library

* Partnered with Contemporary Calgary to present internationally acclaimed soprano Andrea Hill for a curated recital and masterclass featuring local talent and artists from our season.

* Produced a variety of events, including a Valentine’s concert in Drumheller, an inaugural Holiday Pops Concert at Grace Presbyterian Church, an unconventional performance at the Edward Living Centre, and a pop-up concert at Two House Brewing, bringing opera into unexpected spaces and to different audiences in Calgary and the surrounding community.

Our 2025 Season:
Amongst other exciting events to be announced, one of our main projects will be producing the Canadian/Irish opera
The Rocking Horse Winner by Gareth Williams and Anne Chatterton. This powerful opera combines magical realism and lyrical minimalism for an intimate and psychological look at love, luck, greed and obsesstion. Rocking Horse Winner was created in Toronto by Tapestry Opera and it’s premiere in 2016 won 5 Dora Mavor Awards.

This year, we are excited to continue our Red Chair Music Series at the Calgary Public Library as well as our highly successful Holiday Pops concert this December at the Grace Presbyterian Church.

But wait! There is more! We can’t wait to announce our other project and partnerships later this year, especially our Artist Spotlight Recital where we provide a platform for an internationally renown artist to perform in recital!

Join Us in creating the future of opera in Alberta!
Your support makes a difference. Together, we can ensure opera that celebrates Canadian exceptionalism. Donate today and be part of this exciting journey with Ammolite Opera!
