This year, Troyanda Society of Ukrainian Culture and Heritage is celebrating our 50th Anniversary! Whether you are a Ukrainian Newcomer, a longtime Ukrainian-Canadian, or not Ukrainian at all, Troyanda provides a place to come together to experience the glory of Ukrainian culture - it’s dance, it’s costumes, it’s delicious food! Please help us celebrate this momentous milestone and secure our legacy for the next fifty years .
The last few years have been difficult for us all and Troyanda has felt the deep impacts of the economic downturn during a time where it is more important than ever to celebrate Ukrainian culture. It is our priority to recognize the resiliency and strength of Ukrainian people as they face the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. We ask you to support the continuation of our Ukrainian cultural programming amidst these difficult times .
Troyanda is a community. Over the past fifty years, we have gathered over dance, celebrations, and our shared love for all things Ukrainian to build a supportive and caring Ukrainian community. Alongside this essential community-building is our regular programming. We pride ourselves on offering affordable and inclusive dance programming and cultural workshops that centre and celebrate Ukrainian culture while welcoming all community members (Ukrainian or not) to join.
Making it to fifty years as a non-profit organization is a significant feat! We are proud of ourselves for the immense work we have put into building a sustainable and long standing organization. It has only been possible through the dedication of our volunteer-run Board of Directors. Many years ago, the Board worked tirelessly to provide our organization with a financial nest egg to support us for the many years ahead. In 2007, we used that nest egg to purchase our own studio and facility - quite a triumph for a rural Ukrainian culture organization. This year, we made our last mortgage payment on our studio facility! While we are proud to have persevered through the challenges to complete this significant purchase, we recognize that our hard work is far from over. This achievement is a testament to our dedication, but we remain fully aware of the ongoing efforts required to ensure continued success and progress.
Dreams for the Next 50 Years
- Expand Regional Costume Inventory:
- Broaden our collection of regional costumes. By actively researching, and acquiring authentic stage attire from diverse Ukrainian regions, we aim to provide a more comprehensive representation of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
- Enhance Masculine Costume Collection:
- We plan to update and expand our inventory of masculine costumes. This includes acquiring new designs and replacing damaged, outdated pieces.
- Upgrade to Shatterproof Studio Mirrors:
- In response to previous incidents, we will replace our current studio mirrors with high-quality shatterproof mirrors. This upgrade will ensure safety and durability, allowing our dancers to perform confidently and without concern for breakage.
- Create an Original Music Suite in Ukraine:
- We aim to have an original music suite created in Ukraine specifically designed for storyline choreography. This will enhance the integration of authentic Ukrainian music into our performances, enhancing the cultural accuracy and emotional impact of our choreography.
- Instructors Support:
- Our vision includes providing ongoing support and professional development for local instructors and junior instructors. Through targeted education and training programs, we will empower them to excel in their roles and contribute to the growth of Ukrainian cultural education.
- Establish a Scholarship Program for Ukrainian Newcomers:
- We hope to create a scholarship program to assist Ukrainian newcomers in accessing Troyanda's programs. This initiative will provide valuable opportunities for newcomers to engage with and contribute to our cultural community, fostering inclusivity and support.
- Develop Mezzanine Area into Classroom/Studio Space:
- Our goal is to transform the mezzanine area into a multifunctional classroom and studio space. This development will provide additional resources and facilities for our educational and artistic programs, enhancing our ability to offer diverse and comprehensive training.
By pursuing these ambitious goals, we are committed to enriching the cultural experience we provide and ensuring the continued growth and sustainability of Troyanda for generations to come.
