Jack Stuart School Parents' Society is building a fully accessible, inclusive playground!

The Battle River School Division must remove the wooden playground at Jack Stuart School (its the last in our area,) but will not be replacing it.  Jack Stuart School Parents' Society has been raising funds for 5 years to build a new structure. Because JSS houses the centralized inclusive education program for elementary school, this gives us the opportunity to build something that can be enjoyed by kids of all abilities at the school and in the community. 

Jack Stuart School also hosts PreSchool for ages 3 and 4. The existing structures at the school are rated ages 5-12, and so, for liability reasons, teachers are not to permit preschool students to use the equipment. This results in walking field trips to other community playgrounds. Having a playground rated 2-12 on Jack Stuart grounds would greatly benefit this program as well.

The Parent's society has applied for countless grants. We have raised $160,000, through school fundraisers and small grants from the City of Camrose, Vision Credit Union, Battle River Community Foundation, other local organizations as well as the Alberta CFEP matching grant. We have also received donations-in-kind for the ground work from BRSD and Carmack Enterprises out of Nisku.

However, due to the cost of labour and equipment, this balance falls short of funding a structure and swing set that would provide the children with truly engaging play. We have one chance to build this playground and want it to be great, not just ok.

We are asking the community at large to support this project, set to break ground May 2025, so we can build the playground these kids deserve! You can bring a smile to countless children for decades to come!
