Should nature REALLY be accessible to everyone?
Spending time in nature reduces stress, anxiety and depression; improves concentration and attention, and increases feelings of calm. Choosing to spend more time in nature for most people involves putting on a pair of shoes, throwing on a jacket, and heading out to where the trees are, but not for those with mobility challenges. People experiencing mobility challenges need expensive, specialized adaptive equipment to access and enjoy nature and the great outdoors. Alberta Abilities Lodges Society (AALS) has invested heavily in its accessible facility, Coyote Lake Lodge, and outdoor adaptive equipment to allow access to nature by everyone. This expensive adaptive equipment is at risk of being damaged due to a leaky storage shed roof.
