In 2002, Nanton resident Edna Yonda willed the Town of Nanton funds to address the stray & feral cat problem in the area.  A group of concerned citizens, including local veterinarians came together to assist with implementing a plan of action for the funds.

This group became incorporated in July of 2003 as the Nanton & District Animal Protection Society, and have continued to provide services to both the residents and the needy animals in our community and surrounding areas.

The society funds its efforts through government Casino's every three years and by accepting donations from our generous supporters. Our facility is operated by a group of 20+ dedicated youth and adult volunteers who share all the responsibilities of day to day operations.  NAPS does not have any paid staff, preferring to dedicate funds to the cause.

The society's primary goal is to reduce the stray, feral and homeless animal population in Nanton with our TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) Program.  We allocate a large portion of funds annually to trap, sterilize and re-release feral felines, or place them through our  Barn Cat Program .  These programs, along with various public engagement opportunities help us to spread the word of responsible pet ownership within our community and surrounding areas.

Our current storage shed is getting old, leaks, and is falling apart; and also isn't big enough.  We would like to replace it with one that will require less maintenance.  We need somewhere to store traps, portable kennels, etc. that is not inside, as that takes up valuable animal space. Right now we have many of them on a pallet outside and every time the wind blows we have to gather them up, and the weather is making them deteriorate faster than they should. Even the smallest donation will help achieve this goal.
