In a part of this city in northern Alberta the Cairn Housing Society embarked on a transformative journey to create a low income housing project that would redefine the meaning of community and support.  Our vision is not just about providing shelter but about fostering a sense of belonging, empowerment, and hope. it all began with a dream and a commitment to make it a reality.  

The driving force behind this project is the landlord Mr. Brad Cameron who had a vison of supporting people who struggled and never seemed to have enough. A compassionate and determined individual who not only built a building but built something different that changes peoples lives.   He reached out to Carrie Bartsch who he knew was passionate and driven to help those in need.  Carrie had experienced her fair share of adversity growing up. She knows what it 's like to go to bed hungry, wear worn out shoes and have frozen feet and toes in the dead of winter.  Her personal experiences had fueled her passion for helping other in similar situations and knew without a doubt the value of having peer support in the building. 

The Cairn Housing Society is more than just a housing program; it's a community, a family of people who look out for one another.  When Carrie saw a family huddled at the bus stop, their faces etched with cold and desperation she knew they couldn't stop with housing. They needed more resources.  She started the winter boot program and is asking for your help to ensure no one endures these harsh climates without adequate foot wear and clothing.

The Cairn doesn't stop at providing boots.  We know that to break the cycle of poverty, education is also essential.  So we are organizing educational classes, groups, and community events.  Paid skilled facilitators and volunteers are sharing their knowledge, teaching everything from English as a Second Language, Financial Literacy, Building Better Boundaries, Virtues, Person Centered Thinking, Art for Mental Health and more.  These classes, and groups are opening doors for better job opportunities, financial stability and community integration. 

Food security is another pillar of hope for the Cairn Housing Society.  We run a pantry, with nutritious food where families can get groceries free of charge.  This part of the project is completely run by food donation and bottle donations to purchase fresh food and we need your help to keep this going. 

What makes the Cairn truly exceptional is the commitment to working with other organizations.  We are concerned with long term stability and we need the communities help.  When someone needs healthcare, legal assistance, or counseling we have a network of professionals ready to help.  Community members are not left to navigate these complex mazes alone. 

The Cairn Housing Society receives absolutely no government funding and runs completely on grants, donations, and and a bit of blood sweat and tears. We need your help to continue this amazing work. 

The story of the Cairn Housing Society is more than just a low income housing program.  It is a testament to the power of community, empathy, and determination.  In the heart of a bustling city that focuses on only homelessness programs and does not  support programs to prevent it, we are starting this campaign to prove that in the face of adversity, kindness can shine through and change the world one person at a time.  Cairn Housing Society knows there is a brighter future for those who need it most.
