A kitchen in the residents' common area will be a natural gathering space, not only for in-house use but for supports such as nutritional workshops or community kitchen events.
We all know that with the right supports, autistic adults can go on to be very successful, highly functional members of the community. The key is the right supports, in the right place at the right time.
The uncertainty around safe affordable housing is becoming a huge issue, not just in Edmonton or Alberta but in Canada and throughout the world. And the lack of stable, supportive housing for autistic adults is a problem which will get bigger and bigger as more and more individuals are being diagnosed with autism. In Edmonton, alone, it is estimated that at least 20,000 people are impacted with autism.
This is where our organization comes into play. We are building the safe and affordable housing that is so desperately needed. Along with this development, we are also building a sense of community for the residents that will go a long way to decreasing the social isolation that so often comes with autism.
That is where we need you to help us achieve this vision. We are now raising money in order to secure funding to build the development.
