There has never been a truer adage than "it takes a village to raise a child." Even more so when a child lives with a developmental disability.
The past few years have brought unprecedented hardships to families. It has been said, COVID-19 has taken a PTSD-type toll on many of us, and the full extent may not be understood for years to come. This raises the question about the children and youth in our community, who also suffered trauma and significant loss due to social isolation from the community, school, friends, and extended family members. For many kids, the pandemic triggered anxiety and depression, not to mention the impact on their cognitive, emotional and social development. Physical health has also been hindered, as there were no sports, recreational or social opportunities available to them.
Family more than ever need a lifeline and supportive community to help them break down the walls of isolation for their kids. They need to be afforded equal opportunities to return to their treasured places, activities and friendships they left behind.
Transitions believes in providing engaging and fun-filled inclusive day camps for children and youth when on school breaks, regardless of their family's financial constraints. Why do we believe this is important? Because play improves kids' cognitive, emotional, physical and social well-being.
Your donation will make a world of difference for these children. A $25 donation will support a child to attend a day camp, or a $100 donation, will secure a full week. In return, you will receive heartfelt thanks from our Family Support Team for having made a difference in our children's life.
